I haven’t participated much here in the past, but I had to chime in about this story. What amazed me most is how masterfully the story went from a familiar situation to an utterly and deliciously alternate history. Even the character evolved, slowly shedding his bigotry and becoming a global citizen of a tiny slice of idealized humanity. I’m in awe of James Morrow’s imagination.
Words fail me…this story was astonishing. Beautifully written, both witty and gritty and with an imaginative scope that a lot of science fiction cannot even come close to. Mr. Morrow, you are a genius.
